BPA exposure may increase heart disease

A new study says, exposure to bisphenol A- a common chemical found in many consumer plastics such as water and baby bottles, packaged foods, medical devices, eyeglass lenses,… may increase the risk of heart disease of human.

The research analyzed the data from 2.605 U.S people from all ages. The results has shown that levels of bisphenol-A were linked with coronary heart disease. Among the top third in BPA concentrations, about 10% men aged from 60 above were cardiovascular disease. And the number of the lowest BPA exposure developed heart disease was 7%.

Other research, published in the journal Circulation shows a relation between bisphenol A and heart disease risk. Follow the study, researchers compared BPA levels in 1619 people over a 10-year period: 758 people developed heart disease and 861 people who did not.

Richard Melzer of the Peninsular Medical School in England, author of study said that BPA might be affected with health people. But we need to find more details about the mechanism behind this association.

Besides, a 2008 study published in Environmental Health Perspectives, have also found that human fat tissue exposed to BPA made the levels of adiponectin be decreased. It’s a hormone that controls sugar levels in the blood.

Environmental health scientist Richard Stahlhut said that if the levels of adiponectin decreased, it would lead to heart disease increasingly.

There will be need more further study to confirm the findings. But this research strengthens doubts about the safety of bisphenol A. That’s why both the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Food and Drug Administration have had new reviews of BPA safety. BPA has been considered as a concern for toxicity increase in fetuses, infants and children- with effects on the brain, behavior and the prostate gland.

The coatings to protect agaist bacteria and spoilage used in canned products contain also BPA.

BPA was found in 92% of the cans – even those labeled organic. So everyone should use fresh fruits and vegetables. Canned tomatoes and other acidic foods are the worst goods because they will allow more BPA to expose into the food.

Switch to Powdered Infant Formula

The Environment Working Group and The Food and Drug Administration said that the liquid formular in a can may leach BPA to infant. Because the makers use BPA in the linings of their metal cans.

BPA is found less in the powered formula because the metal tops and bottoms of its containers have the chemical. The liquid formula has BPA in the whole metal cans.

Understand the BPA-Breast Milk Link

Babies leach BPA much more than adults so please breastfeeding to decrease the ability of BPA. exposure. Moreover, breast milk has many important nutrients for babies.

Play With BPA-Free Toys
